Graston Technique®

Graston Technique® is an advanced form of soft-tissue therapy that combines instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization with rehabilitative exercises to improve function and pain. The goal of Graston Technique® is to separate and break down scar tissue, as well as stretch connective tissue and muscle fibers. The technique uses specially-designed, stainless steel instruments in combination with a specialized form of massage. Following tissue mobilization, targeted stretching and strengthening exercises are performed.

Graston Technique® has been found to be effective for acute and chronic injuries and in pre- and post-surgical patients. Originally developed for athletes, it is now used in hospital outpatient facilities, industrial settings, and for sports.

Some of the conditions treated with Graston Technique® at Coast Life Chiropractic include:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Chronic soft tissue scarring/fibrosis/adhesion
  • Post surgical fibrosis
  • Chronic ligament injury
  • Tendonosis or Tendonopathy (eg, tennis or golfers elbow)
  • Achilles tendonitis (or Achilles tendonosis)
  • Repetitive Strain Disorder (or RSD)
